Alappuzha Lighthouse

The iconic Alappuzha Lighthouse Standing near the pristine shores of Alappuzha Beach in the charming coastal town of Alappuzha, Kerala. An architectural gem that has attracted tourists since its construction in 1862, this lighthouse, standing as a symbol of safety and beauty, is a significant landmark along the Arabian Sea coast of Kerala.

Visitors can explore the lighthouse from Tuesday to Sunday, with hours from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM and from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM, closed on Mondays. The entrance fee is 20 rupees for Indian nationals and 50 rupees for foreigners, ensuring accessibility to all who wish to witness its magnificence.

As the second oldest lighthouse on the western coast after Colaba in Mumbai, the Alappuzha Lighthouse is a testament to India’s maritime history, showcasing the valorous efforts of Travancore, a former princely state of India.

Due to the increasing tourism in Alappuzha, the visiting hours for the lighthouse were extended from two to eight hours daily by the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships. Upgrades were made to the staircase for easier access to the lantern room, enriching the overall visitor experience.

The lighthouse’s surroundings were also revamped to create a serene atmosphere. The addition of lush landscaping enhances the coastal backdrop, providing a peaceful setting. Visitors can now relax on natural stone seats under the shade of trees, offering a moment of tranquility. Additionally, thoughtful amenities such as washrooms and rest areas ensure a pleasant and comfortable visit for all those who come to admire the Alappuzha Lighthouse.
